Product Overview

Description

The Multi-Equipment Communication Adapter Cable solves the everyday integration headache faced by every test engineer, automation integrator, and field service technician: two pieces of equipment that need to talk to each other have different connectors, different genders, different pinouts, or different protocols. A straight off-the-shelf cable won't bridge that gap — you need a custom adapter. This product family handles all of it on UL2464 shielded multi-core cable construction with copper-welded gold-plated D-Sub terminals, the highest grade industrial standard for clean signal integrity in noisy production environments.

Four adapter classes ship from this product line. The gender changer swaps M-M to F-F or vice versa within the same D-Sub family — solving the classic "two males facing each other" problem. The cross-pinout converter remaps signals between different D-Sub sizes (DB9 ↔ DB15, DB9 ↔ DB25, DB15 ↔ DB25, etc.) per your drawing. The null-modem / crossover cable swaps TX/RX and re-wires CTS/RTS handshake for direct device-to-device serial communication without a host PC. The protocol bridge goes one step further — an inline molded module with an RS-232 / RS-485 / RS-422 transceiver chip translates between electrical signaling standards, powered from the host port or a USB pigtail.

We cross-reference and build legacy part numbers in the B5 MFC, P5 CONT, 0150-10049, 0150-1044, and 0150-10074 series — the cables you find labeled on the back of old Tektronix instruments, HP / Agilent test gear, semiconductor fab equipment, financial-machine modules, and medical analyzers. Send us the legacy P/N or a sample of the original cable and we cross-reference, quote, and ship a working replacement in 7–10 days. Every cable passes 100% per-conductor continuity test with correct cross-pin mapping, insulation resistance ≥ 100 MΩ at 500 VDC, pin-to-shell isolation, and a 500 VAC / 60-second hi-pot withstand. RoHS and REACH compliant. MOQ from 10 pcs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a straight-through cable and an adapter cable?
A straight-through cable carries every conductor from pin N on one end to pin N on the other end — same connector type, same gender, same pinout. An adapter cable changes one or more of these dimensions: gender (M-M or F-F gender changer), connector type (DB9 to DB15 converter), pinout (RS-232 crossover, null-modem), or even protocol (RS-232 to RS-485 with active translator chip). Adapter cables are essential when bridging legacy and modern equipment, mixing different vendors' instruments in one test station, or matching a host PC to a non-standard piece of laboratory or production hardware.
Which D-Sub adapter combinations can you build?
Any combination on request. Common builds: DB9 ↔ DB9 (gender change or crossover), DB9 ↔ DB15, DB9 ↔ DB25, DB15 ↔ DB25, DB15 ↔ DB37, DB25 ↔ DB37, and high-density variants HD15, HD26, HD44, HD62 in either direction. Gold-plated contacts, copper-welded (solder-cup) joints, metal shells with EMI-grounding teeth, and thumbscrew or jackscrew locks are standard on every build. Each conductor cross-routes per your pinout drawing.
Do you handle RS-232 to RS-485 / RS-422 protocol conversion?
Yes — we build both passive crossover cables (null-modem RS-232 with TX/RX swapped, CTS/RTS handshake re-wired) and active converter cables that include an inline molded module with an RS-232 / RS-485 / RS-422 transceiver chip. The active versions are powered from the host port or a USB pigtail. Cable length up to 30 m for RS-232, much longer for RS-485 / RS-422 builds. Custom pinouts welcome — send schematic or sample, we quote within 24 hours.
Which equipment is this adapter cable designed for?
The adapter cable family is built for multi-equipment integration challenges: legacy instrument (DB9 RS-232) to modern PC (USB / DB25), older PLC to new HMI, multi-vendor test station bench where each instrument has its own connector convention, semiconductor fab equipment with non-standard 0150-series Tektronix-style cables, financial machines, medical analyzers, CNC controllers, and industrial automation cabinets. Reference part numbers we handle include B5 MFC, P5 CONT, 0150-10049, 0150-1044, 0150-10074 and the full 0150-series. If you have a legacy P/N, send it — we cross-reference and quote.
What testing and quality checks are performed?
100% continuity test per conductor — every wire is verified end-to-end with the correct cross-pin mapping. Insulation resistance test (≥ 100 MΩ at 500 VDC), pin-to-shell isolation test, and a 500 VAC / 60-second hi-pot withstand check. Shielding continuity verified end-to-end with a milliohm meter. Soldered D-Sub joints are pull-tested per IPC/WHMA-A-620. Drawings are stamped, every cable serialized. RoHS and REACH compliant. SGS pre-shipment inspection on request.
